About this worksheet
Number bonds show how a number can be broken into two parts. Knowing the pairs that make ten is one of the most useful early math skills, because it unlocks the make-a-ten strategy for addition and subtraction. This kindergarten worksheet gives children twelve number-bond problems. Each problem shows a bond for 10 with one part missing. Children write the missing number so that the two parts add up to 10. The set includes every pair from 0 + 10 through 10 + 0, mixed so children practice both directions.
Seeing bonds as two parts of a whole helps children move beyond counting every object. A child who knows that 7 and 3 make 10 can later solve 17 + 3 or 10 - 7 much more quickly.
How to use it: start with ten counters or ten fingers. Cover some and ask how many are hidden. Then connect that idea to the worksheet. If your child is stuck on a blank, ask, "What goes with this number to make ten?" A ten-frame is another strong support: fill one number and count the empty squares.
The answer key lists the missing number for each bond. This worksheet supports Common Core standards K.OA.A.3 (decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way) and K.OA.A.4 (for any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to the given number). Ten versions mean children can keep practicing until the bonds feel automatic.
All 10 versions
Each version practices the same skill with a fresh set of problems, so children can keep practicing without repeating a page they have already done. Problems are not repeated between versions unless a skill has only a small number of possible problems (for example, the addition facts within 10).
