About this worksheet
Knowing that B and b are the same letter is a big step for early readers. Books use mostly lowercase letters, so matching the two forms helps children recognize words. This kindergarten worksheet shows sixteen uppercase letters. Next to each one are three lowercase letters, and children circle the lowercase letter that matches.
The wrong choices are the letters children mix up most often. B sits next to d and p, Q sits next to p and g, and M sits next to n and w. Letters like these look alike or are mirror images, so choosing between them builds careful looking instead of guessing.
How to use it: say the name of each uppercase letter together before your child circles. Ask, "Which one is the small b?" and talk about how the letters are shaped. For b and d, many children like the bed trick: make fists with thumbs up, and the left hand looks like b while the right hand looks like d. Point out that some pairs look almost the same, like P and p, while others look very different, like A and a.
The answer key shows the correct lowercase letter for every row. This worksheet supports Common Core standard RF.K.1.d (recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet). It pairs well with our Letter Tracing A-M and Letter Tracing N-Z worksheets for handwriting practice.
